The Artesa Virgins

Last week, Angie expressed the desire to go to Artesa. I was actually surprised that she had never been in their previous trips to Cuenca. It is much easier to go if there is an excuse, less guilt. Of course the purpose was to introduce the ceramics to these Artesa virgins. Although they weren't planning to buy until there apartment is completed, they wanted to look. I love to "look" also, but the "b" word was also in the back of my mind. Here are Mick, Jim, and Angie in the showroom.

The department that I really wanted to go to is the second's department. To visit the seconds, it is necessary to ask to go there. Although Artesa is open every weekday, you can only visit the seconds in the morning. Jim and Angie are perusing the seconds. This is a view of the factory.

After Artesa, we went to La Piastra for lunch. Mike and Pat came in as we were finishing.

La Piastra is off Remigio Crespo and has wonderful pizza. It opens at noon for lunch. There are also sandwiches and pasta.
Below are my finds for the day at Artesa, which included 2 plates and 2 desert bowls (not pictured) of the Girasol Azul pattern that we bought initially. The total was $17. The seconds department is the kind of place that you must visit more than once because of continuous additions.
Artesa is located at Isabel La Catolica y Los Americas and is well worth a visit. For purchases in the showroom, a bank or credit card can be used; however, the seconds are strictly cash. When perusing the seconds department, you need lots of time to browse through the stacks. Angie found a service for four in a pattern that she liked. This was their first visit, but I have a feeling that it will not be their last.

Mick and I had Spanish class in the afternoon. After which, Mike and Pat came over for tacos and chat. What a lovely way to spend the day, Artesa and friends, all in this lovely city.

Just before going to bed, we walked out on the terrace. It was the clearest night since living hear; usually, their are clouds at night and with the reflected light, stars are minimal. However, on this night, the stars were brilliant. Upon looking up, the Southern Cross was immediately visible. It was the perfect ending for a lovely day.

Until next time,
Mick and Kathy
