We're Here!

This afternoon we left Quito for a stay in our future hometown. As I mentioned yesterday, we decided to take a TAME flight to Cuenca and pay for the additional luggage, which was quoted at $.81 per kilo over the allowed 20 Kg per person. Someone either misquoted or miscalculated because the amount that we ended up paying was the grand total of $22.40. It took a minute for us to close our mouths, but we managed.

We never cease to be amazed at how small the world seems these days. We were sitting at the gate, waiting to board our flight to Cuenca. A couple was sitting near us and got Mick's attention. As it turns out, the lady was from Cuenca, but married an American and had been living in Mooresville, NC for over 20 years. After arriving in Cuenca, we also met her mother and aunt. They were all lovely people. The picture below is of Lourdes and her son Matt, they're planning to move back to Cuenca in a few years.

The flight to Cuenca from Quito was only 35 minutes. We've never been ones to take pictures out the window of a plane; however, today was an exception. I was in awe of the beautiful azure and clarity of the sky. There was very heavy cloud cover and we were above it. Those below were having a gulley washer.
We were met at the apartment that we're renting for our stay in Cuenca by Graciella (Chela), who is with Cuenca Real Estate. This is Chela and Kathy.
The apartment is great. We don't have a river view, but it is a great apartment. Here are some pictures.

These are 2 of the 3 bedrooms. The one above is the computer room; it includes internet access.

Below is the kitchen.

There is a laundry room, complete with washer, dryer, and iron. Perfect to solve my obsession with laundry.

This is the living room. Below is the dining room.

Below is the master bedroom.

We're so happy to be here and are delighted to have an apartment. Now our task is to find something permanent for our return in September.
Until next time,
Mick and Kathy

  1. Hi Mick and Kathy, Sounds like we are on similar tracks in life. We will be coming to Quito on June 28 and then flying on to Cuenca on July 4th for 3 weeks, as we look it over as potential retirement spot. Your apartment looks great! Just wanted to say hello and introduce ourselves (Tony and Pam).
