Just Another Weekend in Cuenca

Saturday morning is our usual day to make our way to the market. Before going to the market, we paid a visit to Parque Calderon. There was a cub scout troup visiting the park also and stopped to get their picture taken.
There's always some kind of entertainment beside the Cathedral. This fellow caught a lot of attention. It was as if he were suspended in thin air.
There was still a military presence in the city. Soldiers were walking around, a number of trucks were parked around the park.

We shopped at 10 de Agosto market and purchased the following items: 1# blackberries $1, 1# strawberries $1, 3 mangoes $1, 1# tomatoes $.40, 2 heads of lettuce $1, 1 large broccoli $.70,
1 large carrot $.10, 1 large cuke $.20, 5# potatoes $1.50, 1# tomatoes $.40, 1 1/2# sweet potatoes $.50. It was a good trip.

On Saturday evening, we were joined by the Rosses, the Cerwins, Henry, and Carlos for dinner at Mansion Alcazar. The dinner was delicious, the company was better. Here's the group: Dory-Shelley's Mom, Shelley, Rod, Mick, Bob, Elaine, Henry, and Carlos.
Sunday we were back in downtown. Mick was in the park and I ran to Panesa to get bread. On my way, I encountered a procession of the Virgin of San Miguel. It was led by altar boys with incense.
Rose petals were scattered for her path.
The virgin had a large entourage, as well as a band following her.

At Parque Calderon, there was a Brasilian group performing.

After chatting with Brian and Shellely, we then went to the flower market. The vendor from whom we bought our flowers had her kitten under the table.
These are the flowers of the week.

The Evans, the Marlers, and another neighbor, Frances, came for dinner. Frances brought the beautiful flowers below.
The evening with our neighbors was fun. There's always laughter with this group. Laughter is healing and heals the soul. It was just another weekend in Cuenca.

Until next time,
Mick and Kathy
